Russia has a new king of money: Leonid Mikhelson, co-owner and CEO of the company Novatek, has become the richest man in the country with an estimated fortune of $ 14.4 billion (€ 13 MM), beating Vladimir Potanin, according to the latest issue of Forbes magazine.

Novatek is the second largest gas producer in Russia and therefore one of the most important companies in the nation. Mikhelson is also a shareholder of Yamal LNG, co-owner of the Sibur petrochemical and owner of a share of Promsvyazbank.

Mikhelson, who is ranked 60th among the world's richest men, is one of the 70 Russian billionaires in the world, eleven less than in 2015.

Mikhail Fridman, owner of Alfa Bank and Vimpelcom Ltd, remained as the second richest person in Russia.

The number of Russian billionaires has been declining over the past two years because of the oil crisis and the economic slowdown in the country.

The race to become the richest Russian in the world has been in dispute over the last decade. Seven different magnates have been listed by Forbes as the richest Asian-European country in the last 10 years men.

Economic sanctions, political intrigue, a floating currency and one of the most volatile markets in the world have been factors that have made the very voluble Russian fortunes. Russian millionaires have been at the mercy of the market, for good and for bad. Some Russian millionaires have seen their doubled or halved in recent years fortune.

In this photo Mikhelson is to the right of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In the United States a completely opposite situation exists. Bill Gates, cofounder of Microsoft, was the richest man in 15 of the last 16 years. His friend Warren Buffett surpassed it in 2008.

Mikhelson debuted on Forbes 10 years ago with a net worth of $ 2.5 billion (€ 2.2 MM), with the growth of its gas business.

Before Mikhelson and Potanin, Alisher Usmanov managed to maintain the first position for three years with a net worth of $ 18.6 billion (€ 17 MM) in 2014.

Vladimir Lisin was the richest man between 2010 and 2011, achieving an incredible fortune of about $ 24 billion (€ 21.4 MM) thanks to the increase in the share price of their company called Novolipetsk Steel.

One suffered a dramatic drop in his fortune was Oleg Deripaska. In 2008 he was considered the richest person in Russia and the ninth worldwide with assets of $ 28 billion (€ 25 million). But in the financial crisis of 2008 he had to take on many debts and UC Rusal aluminum company suffered a blow, so his wealth fell to $ 2.1 billion (€ 1.9 MM) according to Forbes 2016.

However, there is someone who could be the richest man in Russia but does not appear in Forbes magazine. It is of President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, who this year was accused by one of his former government officials have a huge fortune of $ 200 billion (€ 180 million). That would make the Russian president with more money man on the planet.

Mikhail Fridman, El Oligarca Del Petróleo Y El Segundo Hombre Más Rico De Rusia

In Russia there are also other billionaires Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea FC and the most famous of his country magnate. One that is not so media but has a bulging bank account Roman, is Mikhail Fridman, an oligarch oil and the second richest man in Russia.

He was born on April 21, 1964 in Lviv, Ukraine. When I was in high school he was part of a band and during his university days I manage a bar called Strawberry Fields. It also sold carpets and handed tickets at a theater in Moscow.

After graduating from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys in 1986 he tried to undertake several companies, including window cleaning and finally he co-founded along with colleagues from the university a company selling computers and carpets.

By 1991 things started to go better and Mikhail together with its partners created the company Alfa Group Consortium, which is dedicated to investment.

A few months later he began a period of several legal disputes and the company's other big businessmen, who made the firm grow but also took over a good portion of the company involved.

Mikhail was one of the people who helped finance the campaign of President Boris Yeltsin in 1996. By then Alfa expanded its interests to the fields of energy, retail and telecommunications.

It was one of the founders of the Russian Jewish Congress and has always been a supporter of initiatives of the Jews in Russia and throughout Europe. Vladimir Putin Sería El Hombre Más Rico Del Mundo Con Una Fortuna De ¡$200 MIL MILLONES!, Dice Un Ex Alto Funcionario Ruso

New York Review of Books.

Vladimir Putin is an enigmatic and intimidating character. The President of the Russian Federation is considered a leader with a strong charisma, but there is a serene grace as Barack Obama. Putin has the charisma of warlords tough, those that nothing seems to affect them. His legend is based on an image of man of steel. It's a James Bond villain.

Forbes considered the most powerful man in the world. And of course I could not miss our top 10 most powerful people on the planet. We know the influence of Putin, and his statements achieve global impact with Russia is a large military power. But how much money is Putin?
He says that less than $ 100,000 (€ 89.745) per year. But we know that people always possess more than he admits.

Bill Browder, a former fund manager in Russia and is now one of the leading critics of the president, he believes that Putin's fortune is $ 200 billion (€ 179.4 MM), which would place him as the richest man world, by far. More than 100 countries whose GDP does not reach that outrageous amount, including Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Kuwait.

To become true, Putin enter a select group of the richest men of all time. In our top 25 people who have accumulated more money in history, he would equal Muammar Gaddafi, the former dictator of Libya, which will be calculated equity of $ 200,000 billion before being overthrown and killed. Putin also surpass other powerful tycoons like Henry Ford once ($ 199 billion / € 178.5 MM), Cornelius Vanderbilt ($ 185 billion / € 166 million) and John Jacob Astor ($ 121 billion / € 108.5 MM) .

History tells us that the human being who has possessed more wealth is Mansa Musa I, if your estate inflation is set. Musa lived between 1280 and 1337, and as emperor of the Mali Empire managed to amass a fortune absurd $ 400 billion (€ 358.9 million).
When Fareed Zakaria of CNN asked Browder what he thought about the heritage of Putin, the political he responded: "I think it is $ 200 billion." And Mr. Browder talks to base, after driving for a while the wealth of the Asian-European country and work with the president.

"After 14 years in power in Russia and the amount of money the country has made, which incidentally has not invested in schools and hospitals, all the money is owned by Putin in accounts in Switzerland and other banks through front men, who are your friends, "says Browder.

Officially, Bill Gates is considered the man with more money in the world, with assets of approximately $ 79.2 billion (€ 71 billion).
Putin, a former KGB lieutenant colonel, became prime minister of Russia in August 1999 and president in May 2000.
"In eight of their first 10 years in power, Putin focused on stealing all the money he could," said Browder.
From 2001 to 2007 the Russian economy grew by 7% and its GDP increased sixfold. This is due to the oil boom in 2000, which made absurdly wealthy Putin and his henchmen.
Shortly after taking office, Putin made it clear that he intended to remove Yeltsin elite and put in place other elite, most of St. Petersburg, but also corrupt and loyal to him, "wrote Anne Applebaum for The New York Review of Books.

A Vladimir Putin known style Super luxury living. Billionaire Roman Abramovich gave him a mega yacht of $ 36.5 million (€ 32.7 million) called Olympia and maintenance of the boat supposedly assumes the nation.
Putin has received numerous allegations of corruption and embezzlement. It is also said that discreetly owns a large number of Russian companies.
Supposedly it has a palace of $ 998 million (€ 896 million) in the Russian Black Sea coast. Also a huge collection of luxury watches valued at $ 642,000 (€ 576.167).

By the United States no doubt the corruption of Putin. Adam Szubin, a senior US Treasury Department said that they had knowledge of the alleged corruption of the Russian government for many years. They have seen how Putin has been enriched and its close allies.
"Putin goes to those who serve and excludes those who do not. For me this is an image of corruption, "Szubin said in an interview with BBC.
